BSK GRADING SYSTEM

Skill and progress through kickboxing can be measured by means of the BSK kyu grading syllabus; This divides up the syllabus into 10 parts, and each grade is identified by a coloured belt. The first belt you take is “red” – 10th kyu, and as you progress they count down to “brown & black” – 1st kyu (pre-black belt).

There are practical/physical examinations at each stage.  The average time between each grading is usually a 4 month period, but between 1st Kyu and 1st Degree there is at least an 8 month probationary period, depending on how well you advance. The club’s chief instructor normally carries out the grading; usually he/she can assess students all the way to within one grade below their own level.

The distinguished Black Belt:
With regular attendance, it usually takes about 4 years to complete the kyu syllabus - depending on how regular you attend.
Once the kyu syllabus is completed, you have the option and chance to go for your 1st black belt, also known as 1st degree/dan – black belt.A gruelling 2.5hr assessment that will test your whole being to the maximum…don’t worry its all worth it in the end!!
